Rainbow City Police Respond to Mental Health Crisis on Highway 77 Bridge

RAINBOW CITY — Rainbow City Police responded to a call regarding an individual experiencing a mental health crisis on the southbound side of the Highway 77 bridge at approximately 3 p.m.

According to information released by the Rainbow City Police Department, officers arrived at the scene and made contact with the male individual. Authorities were able to peacefully resolve the situation without further incident.

During the response, the southbound lane of Highway 77 on the bridge was temporarily closed while emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Multiple agencies assisted with the response, including the Southside Police Department, Southside Fire Department, Rainbow City Fire Department, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, and AMED.

Officials also reminded the public that help is available for those experiencing a mental health crisis. Anyone in need of assistance can call or text 988, the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or contact CED Mental Health Center at 256-492-7800.
