Gadsden Man Dies from Injuries Following Interstate 59 Crash with Tractor Trailer in Jefferson County

TRUSSVILLE — A Gadsden man has died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday night on Interstate 59 in Jefferson County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Saleh A. M. Muflehi, 27, of Gadsden, was critically injured when the 2016 Kia Soul he was driving struck the rear of a 2021 Peterbilt 567 tractor-trailer. The truck was driven by Vernon J. Abernathy, 62, of Cullman.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:05 p.m. Monday, March 30, near the 140 mile marker on Interstate 59 within the city limits of Trussville.
Authorities said Muflehi was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead Tuesday, March 31.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
