ROME, Ga.– Authorities are investigating a late-night shooting that left a 10-year-old boy injured after multiple rounds were fired into a residence on Superba Avenue.

According to the Rome Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10:43 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 400 block of Superba Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the juvenile inside the kitchen suffering from a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. A family member was applying pressure to the wound with a cloth.

Officers immediately administered first aid until emergency medical services arrived and transported the child for treatment. His condition has not been publicly released.

Captain Danny Story said Friday that the shooting appears to have involved multiple rounds fired into the home from outside.

“We’re investigating a shooting from last night in the 400 block of Superba Avenue in which a juvenile inside a home was injured when multiple rounds were fired into the residence,” Story said. “This is a very serious case, and investigators are actively following leads with assistance from multiple units and partner agencies.”

Members of the Rome Floyd Metro Task Force, who were nearby executing an unrelated search warrant, reported hearing approximately 30 gunshots coming from the area.

Investigators recovered most of the shell casings at the intersection of Superba Avenue and Clervue Circle, located to the left of the targeted residence, where numerous bullet holes were also discovered.

“This incident is another painful reminder of the need to stop the cycle of gun violence,” Story added. “Because it remains an active investigation, we are asking anyone with information to contact Rome Police.”
