Local Bridge Leaders Honored in Gadsden

GADSDEN, Ala.- Two Cherokee County natives were recognized during a special luncheon at Noccalula Falls Park for their decades of service to The Bridge, a nonprofit organization serving youth and families across northeast Alabama.

The event, held at the Kiwanis Pavilion, honored longtime Executive Director Tim Naugher and board member Ginger Cobia. More than 150 current and former board members, coworkers, friends, and family attended the celebration.

The occasion marked Naugher’s retirement after 45 years of service to The Bridge, as well as Cobia’s 40 years of service as a board member.

Under Naugher’s leadership, The Bridge expanded its reach to 37 counties and now serves more than 800 youth and their families each week. Over the past four and a half decades, the organization has assisted tens of thousands of individuals.

Mark Spurlock, associate executive director of The Bridge, served as master of ceremonies and shared stories highlighting Naugher’s contributions and impact.

Johnny Sudberry, a former client who now serves as executive director of the Walker County Children’s Advocacy Center, told attendees that the support he received from The Bridge helped change the course of his life. He said the same has been true for hundreds of others served by the organization.

Etowah County Probate Judge Scott Hassell presented resolutions honoring Naugher’s service and contributions.

Following the tribute to Naugher, Cobia was recognized for her longtime dedication to the organization. She thanked staff and fellow board members and was presented with plaques in appreciation of her service.

The Bridge also announced that Kim Hardin of Rainbow City has been named the organization’s new executive director.
