Cherokee County baseball, softball tournaments set to begin Thursday

CENTRE – The Cherokee County baseball and softball tournaments are scheduled to be played this week. Admission to both tournaments is $8 per day. Cherokee County High School is the host for both tournaments.

The baseball tournament begins on Thursday with Cedar Bluff taking on Gaylesville at 4:30 p.m., followed by Sand Rock and Spring Garden at 7 p.m.

The Cedar Bluff/Gaylesville winner will take on Cherokee County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with the championship game to follow at 7 p.m.

The Cherokee County Warriors will be seeking their third straight county baseball title. They defeated Spring Garden in last year’s championship game 3-2.

In softball, the Cherokee County Lady Warriors won their third straight county tournament championship last year with an 8-1 victory over Spring Garden.

This year’s double-elimination softball tournament begins on Thursday at 4 p.m., as Sand Rock takes on Gaylesville in the first game. Cedar Bluff battles Spring Garden at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Sand Rock/Gaylesville winner against Cherokee County at 7 p.m.

Friday begins with the losers bracket game at 4 p.m., followed by the winners bracket game at 5:30 p.m. Another losers bracket game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Saturday’s softball action begins at 9 a.m., with the championship set for 10:30 a.m. An if-necessary game is scheduled for noon.
