Etowah County 9-1-1 Invites Community to “Adopt a Shift” for Telecommunicators Week

ETOWAH COUNTY-Etowah County 9-1-1 is inviting residents, businesses and community groups to take part in a special show of appreciation during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, set for April 12–18, 2026.
The annual observance honors the men and women who answer 9-1-1 calls, dispatch law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel, and provide life-saving instructions during emergencies. Telecommunicators serve the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, often working behind the scenes as the calm and steady voice on the other end of the line.
To mark the occasion, the Etowah County Communications District is encouraging the public to “Adopt a Shift” as a meaningful way to recognize dispatchers for their dedication and professionalism.

The center operates with four shift rotations and employs approximately 45 to 50 team members, offering numerous opportunities for individuals, families, businesses, churches, classrooms, civic organizations and other groups to participate. Contributions of any size are welcome.
Supporters may choose to provide breakfast, lunch or dinner for a shift, as well as snacks, handwritten notes, small gift cards or care baskets. Officials say every thoughtful gesture is appreciated and makes a difference to the team.
Those interested in participating are asked to contact the 9-1-1 center to coordinate a specific shift and delivery time to ensure smooth operations. Participants should include their name, organization if applicable, and which shift they would like to support.
During Telecommunicators Week, donated items may be dropped off at the center at a scheduled time. The agency also plans to publicly recognize and thank individuals and businesses who contribute through its social media and community platforms.
Etowah County 9-1-1 officials say the week is an opportunity to celebrate the voices behind the calls and the unseen heroes who serve the county every day.
