Johnny was a natural born leader – both at home and in his community. He was the first Student Government President at Gadsden State Community College and was a founding member of the Collinsville Jaycees. He served as the Collinsville Athletic Club President for 54 years and has been a board member for DC Gas for the past 18 years. He served as Mayor of the Town of Collinsville for 17 years and was the president of the Dekalb County Mayors Association 15 years. Johnny recently told his family “I’ll be for Collinsville until the day I pass” and he was.
Funeral services will be 12 noon on Wednesday at First Methodist Church of Collinsville with Rev. Caleb Rackard officiating. Burial will follow in Collinsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon hour of service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund of First Methodist Church of Collinsville (PO Box 324, Collinsville, AL 35961) or the Collinsville High School Athletic Club (PO Box 646, Collinsville, AL 35961).
He is survived by his wife Sandy Traffanstedt; children Chad Traffanstedt, Aimee Brannon, and Johnna Traffanstedt; grandchildren Aubrey T. Nelson (Tanner), Caroline Brannon, and John Thomas Brannon; great-grandchildren Grayson Traff Nelson and Ruthie Ann Nelson; brother Jerry Traffanstedt; sisters Freddie Helms and Jane Simpson (Tommy).
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Molly Frances Brannon and son-in-law Dwayne Brannon.
