Body Found in Coosa River in Gadsden

GADSDEN — Authorities are investigating after a fisherman discovered a body in the Coosa River on Saturday morning.

According to the Gadsden Fire Department, the fisherman was on the water around 10 a.m. when he noticed something unusual floating in the river near the Broad Street bridge. After moving closer to investigate, he realized it was a body and contacted authorities.

Gadsden Fire and Police Department personnel responded to the scene and used boats to recover the body from the water.

Officials said the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office has been notified, and the body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Authorities said they are working to notify the next of kin and have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
