Jimmy Glen Dean, age 80, of Cedar Bluff, passed away on January 26, 2026, at Atrium Floyd Hospital in Rome, Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 31, 2026 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Perry Funeral Home, burial will follow at Daniels Chapel Cemetery, the family will receive friends from 12:00pm till the time of service at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Dean of Cedar Bluff; his son, Todd Dean of Cedar Bluff; his sister, Wanda Hammond of Fort Payne; his daughters, Alison (Patrick) Martin of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Jennifer (Mack) Sawyer of Opelika, Alabama; and his grandsons, Tyler and Jackson Martin and Nicholas and Mark Sawyer.
Mr. Dean was born in 1945 in Cedar Bluff to the late Hardy and Leona Dean. He was a lifelong resident of the community and a proud graduate of Cedar Bluff High School. He continued his education at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, and later attended Virginia Tech University.
Following college, Mr. Dean began a long and dedicated career in education. He taught at Cedar Bluff School until 1993, serving the final seven years of his tenure as principal. After retiring from Cedar Bluff, he continued his service in education as an administrator at Chattooga High School in Summerville, Georgia, where he worked for 20 years until 2013 as assistant principal and the vocational school director. In addition, he taught college mathematics courses at Gadsden State Junior College’s Centre, Alabama campus.
Mr. Dean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and teacher whose impact on students and colleagues spanned decades.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Joe, Fred, and Max Dean, and his sister, Shelba Lindley.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Martin, Jackson Martin, Nick Sawyer, Mark Sawyer, Greg Dean, Shane Dean, and Allen Dean.
The family will receive flowers or donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
