BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Alabama Power is preparing for potential icy conditions expected over the weekend. Crews are being placed on standby to respond quickly to any power outages.

Corey Sweeney, Alabama Power Storm Center Operations Manager, said the company has enacted its storm plan, ensuring trucks are prepared and crews are fully equipped for icy conditions.
Utility workers have checked vehicles, fueled trucks, and stocked supplies. Equipment includes ice cleats for boots, chains for truck tires, insulated weather gear, and additional safety tools.
Anthony Jones said preparation is key, noting that all trucks are equipped with traction chains and stocked with materials and fuel ahead of the storm.
Sweeney also reminded customers that brief power blinks can be a sign of outage prevention technology working properly.
Alabama Power will bring in additional support, with approximately 2,000 extra resources arriving Friday afternoon to assist with restoration efforts if outages occur.
Alabama Power encourages customers to visit its website for winter weather safety tips and outage preparation information. Crews will remain on call throughout the weekend to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
