Commercial Fire Reported at West Gadsden Auto Business
Gadsden — A commercial structure fire was reported late Monday morning at Economy Auto in West Gadsden.
The fire occurred at Economy Auto, located at 852 West Meighan Boulevard near the intersection with North 9th Street, and was reported at approximately 11:42 a.m. The business is located near the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
Due to the incident, traffic was backed up along portions of U.S. Highway 431 as emergency crews responded. Thick smoke from the fire was visible from a considerable distance.
Gadsden Fire Department units were able to bring the fire under control in a short amount of time. Responding units included Engine 1, Rescue 1, Quint 4, Rescue 2, Engine 8, Engine 6, and Engine 7, along with the fire chief.
Fire crews worked efficiently to contain the blaze and secure the area to ensure public safety. No additional information regarding injuries or damage was immediately available.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
