Lady Warriors pound Piedmont for 13th straight basketball win

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors won their 13th straight basketball game Monday night in dominating fashion against rival Piedmont at Richard Lindsey Arena in Centre.

Ellisan Givens rang for 14 points to lift the Class 4A, No. 4 Lady Warriors to a 61-21 victory.

Nevaeh Gaidurgis and Taniya Fife both netted nine points for the Lady Warriors (20-2). Brooklynn Bruce and Deannia Starr both delivered eight points. Marie Crane finished with five points.

Miyah Thomas topped Piedmont with eight points. Kenzie Prater posted six points and Nakiya Bothwell finished with five points.

The Lady Warriors took control early, taking a 28-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Cherokee County led 43-13 at halftime and 57-17 after three quarters.

The Lady Warriors now prepare for the Cherokee County Tournament. They will be seeking their first county championship since 2017 and 17th overall when they open tournament play on Friday in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of the Thursday’s 4:30 p.m. game between Spring Garden and Gaylesville.
