Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame honoring latest class, teams of distinction

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame will introduce the Class of 2026, as well as five high school teams of distinction this Friday, Jan. 16.

Those teams, chosen by the schools for special recognition include football teams from Cedar Bluff (1959 State Champions), Cherokee County (1967, 9-1-1, first AHSAA all-classification playoffs), and Gaylesville (1975 11-1), along with the boys basketball squads from Sand Rock (1965-66 first Final Four team) and Spring Garden (1978-79 state runner-up).

Members of these teams are encouraged to join the Hall of Fame committee this Friday evening at Richard Lindsey Arena on the campus of Gadsden State-Cherokee in Centre. Teams will be recognized between the 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. semifinal games.

The recognition of the Teams of Distinction as well as the induction of the Class of 2026 will take place on Saturday, June 6 at Richard Lindsey Arena in Centre.
