Gadsden State Police Department Welcomes Veteran Officer Danny McDill as Reserve Officer
GADSDEN, Ala. — The Gadsden State Police Department formally welcomed Officer Danny McDill as a Reserve Officer during a swearing-in ceremony conducted by Chief Freeman, marking the addition of a highly experienced law enforcement professional to the department.

Officer McDill brings more than 32½ years of service to the citizens of Alabama, offering a distinguished career marked by dedication, integrity, and leadership. His return to service reflects a continued commitment to public safety and community engagement.
Throughout his career, Officer McDill served 10 years with Etowah County and an additional 19 years with the State of Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Parole. His extensive background provides the Gadsden State Police Department with a deep reservoir of operational experience and institutional knowledge that will benefit both officers and the communities served across Gadsden State’s campuses.

Officer McDill is a graduate of Gadsden State Community College, where he earned an associate degree. He later completed a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Law Enforcement from Jacksonville State University.
A lifelong public servant, Officer McDill is also deeply rooted in family and community. He has been married to his wife, Deanna, for 24 years. He is the father of Ryan, a 17-year-old Eagle Scout, junior at Southside High School, and member of the school band. He is also the stepfather of Cody Hopper, an officer with the Gadsden Police Department, and father-in-law to Ashley Hopper, a dispatcher with the City of Gadsden. Officer McDill is a proud grandfather to Chase and Marley.
Department officials stated that Officer McDill’s experience and professionalism will play an important role in strengthening safety, preparedness, and trust across all Gadsden State campuses. In addition to his enforcement duties, he is expected to serve as a mentor to younger officers, further reinforcing the department’s commitment to excellence in campus policing.
The Gadsden State Police Department expressed its appreciation to Officer McDill and his family and looks forward to the continued service and leadership he brings in his new role as a Reserve Officer.
