GADSDEN — The City of Gadsden is mourning the passing of retired Fire Chief Allen Hawkins, a respected leader whose decades of service left a lasting mark on the Gadsden Fire Department and the community he served.

Chief Hawkins dedicated 19 years to the Gadsden Fire Department, serving with pride, humility, and determination throughout his career. Known for his steady leadership and commitment to public safety, he played a significant role in strengthening the department and mentoring generations of firefighters.

Even after his retirement, Chief Hawkins remained closely connected to the department. Through Allen Building Company, he continued to contribute to the city, most notably serving as the general contractor for the construction of Fire Station 7. City officials and department members said that project stands as a testament to his ongoing dedication to Gadsden and its firefighters.
