Winners of three in a row and four of their last five games, the Class 2A Cedar Bluff Tigers (8-5) cracked the top 10 at No. 10 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball rankings. The latest poll was released early Thursday morning.

Cedar Bluff is at Spring Garden on Thursday evening.

Speaking of Spring Garden, the Panther boys (2-3) dropped out of this week’s rankings. They are still receiving consideration.

Two other area boys teams took a slight dip in the rankings this week. Class 2A Sand Rock (7-3) dropped one spot to No. 4, and Class 3A Piedmont (4-3) fell two spots to No. 9.

Sand Rock hosts Spring Garden on Friday. Piedmont hosts Ohatchee on Thursday evening.

One other team continues to receive nominations: Class 3A Collinsville (6-2).

Nothing changed for area girls teams this week. Sand Rock (9-2) continues to be ranked third in Class 2A, followed by Cedar Bluff (11-2) at No. 4.

Cherokee County (9-2) remains at No. 4 in Class 4A. The Lady Warriors entertain White Plains on Thursday.

Class 1A Spring Garden (3-2) holds steady at No. 10.

Collinsville (5-5) and Piedmont (4-6) received nominations.
