Sen. Katie Britt Issues Statement Following Death of Alabama Student at Brown University

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt released a statement expressing condolences and calling for justice following the death of an Alabama student who was killed in a shooting Saturday night on the campus of Brown University.

In her statement, Britt said she and her husband, Wesley, join the Mountain Brook community and residents across Alabama in mourning the loss of Ella Cook, who was killed during the weekend incident.

Britt described Cook’s death as senseless and said there are no words that can ease the pain being experienced by her family and friends. She noted that Cook’s life was taken far too soon and expressed faith-based comfort for those grieving, saying loved ones find solace in believing Cook has joined “our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for all of eternity.”

The senator also thanked local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for their continued work in the investigation, stating her gratitude for their efforts to ensure justice is served.

“Our hearts are breaking for the Cook family,” Britt said, asking the public to keep Cook’s loved ones and community in their prayers.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
