Early-Morning Structure Fire Destroys Home in Ballplay Bend
BALLPLAY BEND — An early-morning structure fire destroyed a wood-frame residence in the Ballplay Bend community after multiple fire departments responded in freezing conditions.
According to the Ballplay Bend Fire Department, the call came in just before 3 a.m. when Ballplay Bend units were alerted to respond on automatic aid with Ballplay No. 1 to a reported structure fire with flames visible. BBFD 603 was the first unit to arrive and reported the structure was fully involved upon arrival.
Engine 105 was the first arriving apparatus and immediately transitioned to a defensive firefighting strategy due to the extent of the fire. Crews deployed an attack monitor and two attack lines to contain the blaze. Ballplay No. 1 arrived shortly thereafter with an engine and a tanker to support suppression efforts.
Hokes Bluff Fire Department responded as automatic aid, providing additional firefighters and a tanker. The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit also responded to assist with firefighting operations. Glencoe Fire Department was later requested to provide additional manpower at the scene.
Despite the coordinated response, the structure was deemed a total loss.
Etowah County 9-1-1 dispatchers were credited for coordinating resources and maintaining communication throughout the incident. Piedmont Rescue was on scene for medical standby, and Alabama Power responded to address a downed power line associated with the fire.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was not released.
