Ambriola Recalls Cheese Products Sold Nationwide at Walmart, Target, and Aldi After Listeria Detection

West Caldwell, N.J. — November 25, 2025 — The Ambriola Company has issued a nationwide recall of several cheese products—sold at major retailers including Walmart, Target, and Aldi—after routine testing revealed contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to information released through the FDA.

The bacterium poses serious health risks, especially to young children, older adults, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

No illnesses have been reported at this time. However, Ambriola has expanded the recall to include additional cheeses processed at its West Caldwell, New Jersey, facility as a precaution.

Products Included in the Recall

The recalled cheeses were distributed nationwide between November 3 and November 20, 2025, and were sold at Walmart, Target, Aldi, and other retail stores and distributors. Affected items include both packaged retail cheeses and grated cheese sold by the pound under brands such as Locatelli, Boar’s Head, Member’s Mark, Ambriola, and Pinna.

Ambriola CEO Phil Marfuggi said the company “takes food safety very seriously” and has instructed retailers and distributors to remove affected items from shelves. Production and distribution of affected products have been suspended as the company works closely with the FDA and reviews sanitation and safety procedures.
