Sheriff Phil Sims Announces Bid for Re-Election in Marshall County
Marshall County-Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims has officially announced his intention to seek another four-year term, highlighting accomplishments from his eight years in office and outlining priorities for the future.

Sims said it has been an honor to serve the county and emphasized his commitment to keeping the sheriff’s office deeply connected to the community. Since taking office, he said he has strengthened community watch programs, participated in numerous local events, and increased the department’s visibility throughout the county.
One of the key achievements Sims highlighted is the establishment of dedicated School Resource Officers in every school. He noted that the SRO program has earned statewide recognition, crediting the officers for their dedication and professionalism. Routine training has also become a standard for deputies and correction officers, ensuring they remain up to date on changing laws and policies.
Sims pointed to improvements in pay and equipment upgrades made possible through ongoing cooperation with the county commission. He also addressed the long-standing issue of jail overcrowding, saying his administration secured approval for a 250-bed expansion that will help resolve the problem for years to come.
During his tenure, the sheriff’s office has grown its ranks, adding more patrol deputies, correction officers, two K-9 units, an investigator, a training coordinator, and courthouse security personnel. Sims said the staffing increases have improved retention and strengthened operations. The department has also expanded its involvement with the drug task force and several federal task forces, while building strong partnerships with local police departments and the district attorney’s office.
Looking ahead, Sims said construction is underway on a new sheriff’s training center and firearm range, supported by community donations. The department is also developing a crime scene unit, launching a drone program, and updating policies to stay aligned with current laws.
Sims said the sheriff’s office will continue its proactive approach to tackling drug trafficking, property crimes, violent offenses, and tracking registered sex offenders. He reaffirmed his open-door policy and encouraged residents to reach out anytime.
Closing his announcement, Sims asked for the public’s vote and support as he seeks to continue serving Marshall County. “Together, we can continue building a safer, stronger Marshall County for everyone,” he said.
