Officer Smith received a special distinction from his classmates, who selected him to serve as the class chaplain. Smith and King also earned top recognition in marksmanship, tying for the academy’s prestigious “Top Shot” award. According to the department, it is believed to be the first time in the academy’s history that two officers from the same department have shared the honor.

The department applauded the trio’s achievements and welcomed them into service, noting that each has demonstrated the professionalism and dedication expected of new officers.

The graduates will now begin their law enforcement careers in Gadsden, where they will serve the community with what the department described as “pride, integrity, and excellence.”
