Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Reports Deputy Shot During Search Warrant Operation

Etowah County-The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is requesting prayers and support after an early-morning search warrant operation resulted in gunfire and injuries to both an officer and a suspect.
According to information released by the Sheriff’s Office, members of a county Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG) approached a residence to execute a search warrant when they announced their presence and were met with gunfire. During the exchange, a JSOG member was struck in the arm. The suspect inside the residence was also injured.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported for medical treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released.
The Sheriff’s Office asked the community to keep the injured JSOG member and all involved in their thoughts and prayers as the investigation continues.

This morning, while executing a search warrant in East Gadsden, a member of the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG) was struck by gunfire. JSOG is a highly trained, county-wide tactical unit made up of men and women who run toward danger so the rest of the community doesn’t have to.
The injured deputy is currently receiving medical care and is expected to recover. Sheriff Jonathon Horton praised the professionalism and training of JSOG, stating,
“Our JSOG members faced an incredibly dangerous situation today with courage and skill. I am relieved the deputy is expected to be okay, and I could not be prouder of the unit’s dedication to protecting this community.”
Gadsden Fire and EMS responded immediately, providing critical care with the same urgency and excellence they demonstrate every day. The suspect involved in the incident is in custody, the scene is secure, and the investigation is ongoing.
