Cherokee County Schools Report Card Improves

During the regular Board of Education meeting Thursday afternoon Dr. Stephen Ingram made a presentation to the Board about understanding the School Accountability Report Card. The good news is the Cherokee County School System improved the overall grade score of 88 and that is up from the previous 84.

In other business, the Board reviewed the updated travel procedures, approved a proposal from Rosemont Consulting Services, a memorandum of understanding was approved with the Challenger Learning Center of Northeast Alabama, approved a proposal from Badgepass Inc., Approved amended Energy Savings budget for Sand Rock School, approved the Demolition of Cedar Bluff School property, declared 3 vehicles as surplus property, approved travel schedule, approved the personnel action sheet as presented, professional development and current job postings. In the Superintendent’s update, Mr. Welsh recognized Cherokee County Volley Ball Coach, Tiffany Reiger on her team winning the 4A  State Championship. The team finished the season with 51 wins and 9 loses.

Next Mr. Welsh recognized the Sand Rock Cross Country Coach and his team for winning the 2nd Place Trophy in the State for their outstanding season.

Mr. Welsh also recognized three local FFA Chapters for winning the National FFA Chapter Award.  Across the Country there are 9400 FFA Chapters and only four hundred received this Award with 3 of those in Cherokee County Those Awards went to Cedar Bluff, Centre and Spring Garden Chapters.

Superintendent Welsh also reminded everyone in attendance November is Thank Alabama Teacher Month and encouraged everyone to Thank Our Teachers for the outstanding job they do in helping to shape the next generation.

The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 8th at 4 pm in the Board Office.
