RED BAY – Jaxon Vinson ran for 228 yards on 17 carries with three touchdowns, and Jeremiah Thorne completed 5-of-7 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Red Bay Tigers to a 53-14 victory over Sand Rock in the Class 2A state playoffs on Thursday night.
Davo Colburn caught a pair of passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns for Red Bay (9-2), which advances to the second round to take on Southeastern next Friday.
Alec Ashley led the Wildcats (3-8) by completing 11-of-27 pass attempts for 138 yards and a touchdown. Alex Stone and Lathan Amos both caught four passes. Stone had 52 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter to tie the game at 7. Amos finished with 38 yards receiving.
Cooper Tucker had an interception on defense for the Wildcats.
Red Bay held a 14-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead to 28-7 at halftime. The Tigers took a 39-14 edge at the end of three quarters.
