New Tractor and Garbage Cans Approved But Claim Denied

The Centre City Council this week approved the purchase a new 36 Horsepower Mahindra Tractor for the Park and Recreation Department. The cost is $23000 from Foothills Tractors of Centre.

Street and Sanitation Supervisor Bobby Paul asked the Council to approve the purchase of new garbage cans in the amount of $28,378.

The Cherokee County FFA received financial assistance in the amount of $1000  for their annual convention trip.

A claim filed by Raven Weathington was denied. According to Street and Sanitation Supervisor Bobby Paul, Ms Weathington’s claim was in the amount of $2258 for Tee Shirts. The claim stated the Tee Shirts were in a tote container outside her place of employment and the City’s Sanitation Department employees picked it up with the garbage. However, Supervisor Paul investigated the issue with the employees and they gave sworn written testimony, neither employee saw the tote or disposed of it. At the advice of the City’s Attorney, Pat Tate, the claim was denied.

Tuesday was the last meeting of the present Administration. Mayor Mansfield congratulated each retiring Council Member, Kay Davis, Bess Yarbrough, Harry Moon, and Frankie Kelly. The total years of Public Service for the group is 120 years which the Mayor thanked them for their commitment to make Centre a Better Place to Live.

They Celebrated the occasion with a cake.

The Newly Elected Mayor and Council will be sworn in Monday, November 3rd at 5 pm.
