HOOVER – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors are headed back to the Class 4A state volleyball tournament for the third straight year.
The Lady Warriors swept their way past Wilson and Madison Academy Thursday in the North Super Regional at Hoover’s Finley Center. They defeated Wilson 25-18, 25-9, 25-19, then beat Madison Academy 25-20, 25-15, 25-12 to clinch their latest state tournament berth.
The Lady Warriors (46-9) will take on Madison County in the regional semifinals Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
“I’m so proud of how our girls showed up with heart and grit today,” Cherokee County head coach Tiffany Rieger said. “They battled for every point and punched their ticket to state for the third straight year. We are incredibly blessed and excited for the opportunity, but we’re not finished here at regionals yet. We’ll continue to fight for the North Regional championship.”
Against Wilson, Ava Haygood posted 17 kills, 11 digs, a block, and an ace. Macy Lea accumulated 34 assists, eight digs, four kills, and a block. Raegan Garmany: delivered four kills, a block, and an assist. Mattie Green managed four kills, two digs, and an assist.
Jolie Alexander collected eight digs, seven kills, two blocks, two aces, and an assist. Ellisan Givens contributed nine digs, four assists, and two aces. Nevaeh Gaidurgis earned 10 kills, eight digs, and two assists. Jesslyn Hincy finished with two digs and an assist.
In the win over Madison Academy, Lea accounted for 28 assists, nine digs, four kills, a block, and an ace. Garmany accounted for three blocks and two kills. Green also had a pair of kills. Haygood earned seven kills, five aces, four digs, two assists, and a block.
Alexander accumulated 10 kills, four digs, a block, and an assist. Givens delivered 10 digs, an ace, a kill, and an assist. Gaidurgis came away with 10 kills, eight digs, and a block. Hincy finished with six digs, two aces, and an assist.
