Marshall County Coroner Cody Nugent Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election

Marshall County – Marshall County Coroner Cody Nugent has announced that he will not be seeking re-election for his position in 2026, citing a desire to dedicate more time to his family. Nugent released a statement outlining his decision, reflecting on his tenure, and expressing gratitude to the community.

Nugent, who has served as Marshall County Coroner since 2019, stated that the decision was made “with great thought and consideration.” He emphasized his deep commitment to the county and appreciation for the trust placed in him by its residents over his two terms. “My wife, 11-year-old son, and a 4-year-old daughter deserve more attention than I can provide them with my current responsibilities,” Nugent explained as the primary reason for his departure.

During his time in office, Coroner Nugent has overseen over 2,000 investigations and assisted more than 5,600 families. He expressed pride in the significant advancements made within the Marshall County Coroner’s Office since 2019. These improvements, aimed at alleviating the increased responsibilities due to population and healthcare growth, include a new freestanding facility, the implementation of electronic record systems, a dedicated vehicle, expanded cooler space, and an examination room. Additionally, Nugent highlighted compensation for Deputy Coroners and advancements in investigative techniques and practices as key achievements. “Many of these advancements are not known to most citizens, however, in the event they are ever needed to provide answers for families they will prove invaluable,” he noted.

Nugent confirmed that he will continue to serve Marshall County with the same level of dedication until his term concludes in January 2027. He plans to focus on his family, church, and career after leaving office, and looks forward to contributing to Marshall County as a citizen.

The community now faces the prospect of electing a new Coroner in 2026, as Nugent prepares to transition out of public office.
