Piedmont routs Weaver 69-21 to remain unbeaten

PIEDMONT – Class 3A, No. 2 Piedmont routed Weaver 69-21 to remain unbeaten on the football season and in Region 6 play on homecoming Friday night.

The Bulldogs (8-0, 6-0) built a 28-0 lead in the second quarter and held a 40-7 halftime advantage.

Nick Mixson and Jaxson Howard both ran for 100 yards on the ground. Mixson gained 123 yards on six carries and scored three touchdowns. Howard had 100 yards on nine totes with a touchdown.

Quarterback Cole Austin was 6-of-8 passing for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Rollie Pinto caught three passes for 60 yards and two scores. Ethan Tidwell tallied two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Aliandre Wright added a 24-yard touchdown run, and Carson Cleveland had five carries for 14 yards and a score.

The Bulldogs also had three interceptions on defense by Chase Kirkpatrick, Ben Tolbert and Ivan Jones. Jones returned his interception for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Weaver (2-6, 2-4) scored its first touchdown with 9:02 remaining in the second quarter on Junior Allen’s 63-yard pass to Timo Siles to make it a 28-7 game. Allen also added an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 8:45 to go in the third. Leegion Bragg had the Bearcats’ final score with 30 seconds remaining.

Piedmont is at Wellborn next Friday.
