Cherokee County EMA and 911 Host Public Safety Day in Centre

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency and 911 hosted a Public Safety Day on Monday evening, September 29, at Centre Fire Station #1.

The community event brought together multiple public safety agencies, including the Centre Fire Department, Centre Police Department, Broomtown/Rhinehart Fire Department, The Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Atrium Health Floyd EMS, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County 911, and WEIS Radio.

Attendees had the chance to tour emergency vehicles, view specialized tools, and receive safety information designed to help families prepare for disasters. Many agencies also provided keepsakes for children, making the event both fun and educational.

In addition to the demonstrations, organizers served hot dogs and snacks, creating an opportunity for residents to sit down and share a meal with the men and women who serve and protect the community.

Public Safety Day gave local families a chance to connect with first responders in a relaxed setting, strengthening relationships and building trust with those who step forward in times of crisis.
