The Cherokee County Warriors (5-1) and Anniston Bulldogs (5-0) will battle for the top spot in Class 4A, Region 6 Friday night. Both teams maintained their top five rankings in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football poll, released early Wednesday morning.

The Warriors hold steady at No. 4, while the Bulldogs maintain their No. 5 ranking. Cherokee County is coming off a 28-13 win over Class 6A Shades Valley, while Anniston coming off a 41-13 victory over Pleasant Grove.

The Bulldogs hold a 10-5 edge in the series, but the Warriors have won the last three meetings, including last year’s game 14-0.

In Class 3A, Piedmont (5-0) is still No. 2 following a 61-0 trouncing of B.B. Comer. The Bulldogs travel to Locust Fork (1-4) on Friday.

One other area team is continuing to receive consideration for the poll: Class 1A Spring Garden (4-2).

The Panthers are coming off a 42-14 victory over Cedar Bluff and travel to unbeaten Appalachian (6-0) for a crucial battle in Region 8.
