A high-speed pursuit in Chattooga County earlier this month ended with the arrest of a 36-year-old woman on multiple felony drug and traffic charges.

According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Amy Leigh Anthony, 36, after chasing her silver Pontiac G6 at speeds reaching 101 mph along Highway 27.

The incident began when deputies, stationed at Highway 27 and Hunter Road, noticed a vehicle with what they believed to be an incorrect license plate. As deputies attempted to follow, the driver accelerated northbound toward Summerville.

The pursuit reached speeds of more than 100 mph in areas posted for 55 to 65 mph. Deputies say Anthony also passed a vehicle in oncoming traffic within a no-passing zone and switched off her headlights in an attempt to evade capture.

The chase ended when Anthony eventually slowed, pulled over, and turned on her flashers. Deputies ordered her out of the vehicle at gunpoint and placed her under arrest. A male passenger, William Anthony, was also detained briefly but later released after denying knowledge of drugs found near the scene.

Deputies discovered a black case in front of the car containing suspected psychedelic mushrooms. A search of Anthony’s pocketbook revealed a baggie of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl. Field tests confirmed both substances.

Anthony was transported to the Chattooga County Detention Center, where she faces a lengthy list of charges, including:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine

  • Possession of Schedule I or II Drugs

  • Fleeing/Attempting to Elude a Police Officer

  • Reckless Driving

  • Speeding

  • Failure to Maintain Lane

  • Driving with Invalid Registration/Suspended Tag

  • Improper License Plate Use

Her vehicle was towed from the scene by LuAllen’s Towing.
