Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Scottsboro Thanks to License Plate Reader System
SCOTTSBORO – A traffic stop in Woodville led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a Tennessee man on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
According to the Scottsboro Police Department, an officer patrolling Highway 72 Westbound near Porter Road received an alert from the Flock License Plate Reader (LPR) system indicating a stolen vehicle had been detected in the area.
The vehicle, a 2015 red Volkswagen Passat displaying a Tennessee dealer tag, was located a short time later just west of County Road 11. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 72 near County Road 8, where the driver was identified as Jesse Glenn Ferrell.
Ferrell reportedly denied the vehicle was stolen; however, dispatch confirmed it had been reported stolen from a dealership in Smithville, Tennessee. Investigators later learned Ferrell had taken the car on a test drive from the dealership and failed to return it.
The vehicle was recovered without damage. Ferrell was taken into custody and transported to the Jackson County Jail, where he faces a charge of Receiving Stolen Property in the First Degree.
Police noted the incident demonstrates the effectiveness of the Flock camera system in assisting law enforcement with the recovery of stolen vehicles and in protecting the community.
