ADPH Launches Ninth Annual “Share Your Smile with Alabama” Photo Contest

Share Your Smile

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Oral Health Office has announced the launch of the ninth annual Share Your Smile with Alabama photo contest, inviting parents and guardians to showcase their child’s smile.

The contest is open to third-grade students in Alabama, as well as homeschooled children ages 8 to 10. Entries will be accepted from September 22 through October 31, 2025, with no entry fee required. Official rules and the application form are available at alabamapublichealth.gov/oralhealth/contest.html

Two winners—a girl and a boy—will be selected from the photo submissions. They will be featured in ADPH marketing campaigns promoting children’s oral health and recognized at a statewide news conference on January 8, 2026.

The contest coincides with National Children’s Dental Health Month in February, when ADPH promotes preventive dental care, community water fluoridation, and the HPV vaccine, which is recommended for children beginning at age 9.

Dr. Tommy Johnson, State Dental Health Director, said, “We want to remind everyone that healthy oral health habits lead to healthy smiles, and tooth decay is almost 100 percent preventable. This annual contest highlights the importance of children’s oral health care across our state.”

The ADPH Oral Health Office works to prevent dental disease for Alabama’s citizens through community and school-based programs that emphasize education, prevention, and the elimination of oral health.
