Rome City Schools Mourns the Loss of Beloved Educator Joshua Smith

Rome, GA-The Rome City Schools community is grieving the loss of longtime educator Joshua Smith, who passed away last week. Colleagues, students, and families remember him not only as a dedicated teacher but also as a kind-hearted individual whose impact reached far beyond the classroom.

Mr. Smith was known for going above and beyond in all that he did—whether it was supporting students, assisting parents, or lending a hand to fellow staff members. Friends and coworkers say he was always the first to volunteer and that he greeted everyone he met with a warm smile.

“Mr. Smith was a kind man and always willing to extend an olive branch to help and support his teammates and colleagues across Rome City Schools,” said Dr. Lashonda Flanders, Director of Special Education.

His legacy, colleagues say, will be remembered not just in the lessons he taught but in the compassion, encouragement, and genuine care he showed for others each day.

The entire Rome City Schools community has expressed heartfelt condolences to Mr. Smith’s family, honoring his life and the countless ways he touched those around him.
