Sheriff’s Office Issues Statement 

BLOUNT COUNTY – The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the arrest of one of its employees, Christopher Thomason, following an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigations Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. https://www.alea.gov/news/aleas-icac-task-force-promotes-safer-internet-day-2024

Thomason, who was attending the Alabama Police Officers Standard Training Academy at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, was taken into custody and charged with 11 counts related to child pornography. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.

Blount County Sheriff Mark Moon said he was notified of the arrest on Tuesday, September 9, and immediately began the process of terminating Thomason’s employment with the department.

“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by this situation,” Sheriff Moon said in a statement. “The actions alleged are completely unacceptable, and they betray the values of trust, integrity, and protection that we are sworn to uphold. I want to be absolutely clear—this office will always operate with transparency and accountability to the people we serve. We will continue to fully cooperate with ALEA and all agencies involved in this investigation.”

The Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to maintaining the trust of the community by being open about the case and ensuring proper steps are taken. No additional details have been released at this time.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has been notified by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigations Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force of the arrest of one of our employees, Christopher Thomason.
Thomason, who was attending the Alabama Police Officers Standard Training Academy at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, was taken into custody and charged with 11 counts involving child pornography. The arrest was carried out by ALEA’s ICAC Task Force, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Sheriff Mark Moon was notified of the arrest on September 9, 2025. Upon receiving this information, Sheriff Moon immediately began the process of terminating Thomason’s employment with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
