Alabama Ranked Among Most Religious States in 2025
With nearly half of adults in the United States reporting that they pray daily, a new report highlights Alabama as one of the nation’s most religious states.
The non-profit organization SmileHub released its 2025 rankings of the Best Charities for Faith & Religious Support and the Most Religious States, evaluating all 50 states across 13 key metrics. These included the number of faith-based charities per capita, the share of people who pray daily, and the prevalence of religion-related careers.

Alabama placed third overall in the national rankings. The state scored especially high in the percentage of adults who consider religion very important in their lives, coming in fourth nationwide. Alabama also ranked fourth in congregations per capita and ninth in religious establishments per capita.

SmileHub noted that more than two-thirds of American adults identify with a religion, and while the First Amendment guarantees freedom of belief, religion continues to play an important role in shaping communities across the country.
The organization said its findings are designed to highlight states where religion holds strong cultural influence and where resources are most available for individuals seeking faith-based support.
