Area football teams earn mixed results in jamboree action

Area high school football teams had one last dress rehearsal on Friday evening before the 2025 season officially kicks off next weekend. Here is a roundup of the area’s jamboree action.

Cherokee County 27, North Jackson 3

STEVENSON – Cherokee County’s varsity football starters scored on three of their four offensive possessions in a 27-3 football scrimmage victory at North Jackson on Friday.

Keyshawn Woods ran for 79 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown for the Class 4A, No. 2 Warriors. Woods scored his touchdown with 8:23 remaining in the second quarter. Arnol Francisco’s extra point gave the Warriors a 7-0 lead.

Quintavious Rogers extended Cherokee County’s lead to 13-0 on a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:27 remaining in the first half. Adam Griffith added a 3-yard scoring run with 10:26 to go in the third for a 20-0 Warrior advantage.

Griffith also completed 3-of-6 pass attempts for 62 yards. Keyshawn Thomas caught a pair of passes for 40 yards.

Kaden Coleman had a touchdown run during the latter part of the third quarter when both teams were mixing in their junior varsity players.

The Warriors open the 2025 season on Friday when they travel to Piedmont.

Piedmont 21, Alexandria 14

OHATCHEE – Piedmont’s Rollie Pinto caught two touchdown passes against Alexandria and one against Jacksonville as Piedmont swept its two, two-quarter games in Ohatchee’s 2025 fall jamboree Friday.

Piedmont beat Alexandria 21-14 and won the varsity quarter 14-7 in the night’s most anticipated peak at two ranked teams. Piedmont is preseason No. 2 in Class 3A in the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll. Alexandria begins the season at No. 8 in 4A.

Pinto, who recently committed to Jacksonville State, was the night’s individual star. He tiptoed the sideline while making the turn downfield en route to a 76-yard, catch-and-run touchdown against Alexandria then made a diving catch in the corner of the end zone on Cole Austin’s 32-yard touchdown pass on the varsity quarter’s final play.

Austin connected with Pinto for a 5-yard fade throw for a touchdown against Jacksonville, and Piedmont won 7-6, with all points coming in the varsity quarter.

Noah Bolton scored Piedmont’s other touchdown against Alexandria, a 61-yard run around right end in the JV quarter.

Piedmont hosts Cherokee County to open the 2025 season on Friday.

Spring Garden 13, Ranburne 13
North Sand Mountain 7, Spring Garden 6

SPRING GARDEN – Class 1A, No. 6 Spring Garden tied Ranburne 13-13 and fell a point short against North Sand Mountain 7-6 in football jamboree action on Friday night at Jason Howard Field.

In the tie with Ranburne, Spring Garden took the early lead on a 46-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Brady Ruark. The extra point gave the Panthers a 7-0 advantage at the 4:23 mark of the first quarter.

Ranburne responded almost two minutes later in the quarter on a touchdown run by Aiden Whitman. The point after was no good, keeping the score at 7-6 Spring Garden.

Cam Cade extended the Panther lead to 13-6 on a 14-yard touchdown run with 6:36 remaining in the second quarter. The PAT was no good.

Ranburne scored the scrimmage’s final touchdown on a run with 4:56 left in the scrimmage. The point after was good.

Ryder Kraika led the Panthers with 40 yards on four carries. Ben Baker added 20 yards on three carries. Cade carried for 18 yards on a pair of totes. Ruark ran for 16 yards on four carries. Clayton Sadler finished with 14 yards on three carries.

After Ranburne fell to North Sand Mountain 14-0 in the next scrimmage, the Bison held on to defeat Spring Garden in the nightcap.

The Bison scored first on a touchdown pass by Cade Davis. The PAT gave North Sand Mountain a 7-0 lead with 5:07 left in the first quarter.

Sadler scored on a 2-yard run with 4:40 to go in the second. The point after failed.

Ruark had 14 yards on three carries. Sadler tallied 10 yards on three totes. Zane Edwards had an interception on defense.

Spring Garden travels to Sand Rock on Thursday.

Sand Rock 7, Valley Head 7
St. John Paul II 17, Sand Rock 0

VALLEY HEAD – In Tanner Nelson’s unofficial debut as Sand Rock head coach Friday, the Wildcats tied Valley Head 7-7 and fell to St. John Paul II 17-0 in football jamboree action at Valley Head.

Davian Eyres scored the Wildcats’ lone touchdown.

Sand Rock hosts Spring Garden to kick off the 2025 season on Thursday.

Gaston 24, Gaylesville 6

GADSDEN – Gaston defeated Gaylesville 24-6 in a two-quarter football jamboree on Friday.

The Bulldogs built a 16-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Jack Sentell scored the Trojans’ lone touchdown on a 6-yard run.

Gaylesville travels to Donoho to begin the 2025 season on Friday. Gaston is at Asbury.

Collinsville 27, Appalachian 14

COLLINSVILLE – Mason McAteer threw two touchdown passes – one apiece to Gavin Lang and Sylas Adams. Noah Johnson and Carson Clanton both tallied a touchdown on the ground to lead the Collinsville Panthers past Appalachian 27-14 in football jamboree action on Friday.

Collinsville built a 20-7 lead in the varsity half. Clanton scored his touchdown in the second half.

The Panthers open the 2025 season on Aug. 28 against Cedar Bluff.

Fayetteville 14, Cedar Bluff 0
Sylvania 27, Cedar Bluff 7

CEDAR BLUFF – Cedar Bluff hosted a football jamboree with Fayetteville and Sylvania on Friday. The Tigers fell 14-0 to Fayetteville in their first scrimmage, then dropped a 27-7 decision against Sylvania in the nightcap.

Cameron Hammonds put Fayetteville up 7-0 on a 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Wolves added a 30 yard run in the second for the final.

Sylvania built a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of 55 yard runs by Travis Owens and Seth Ledford and a 47-yard quarterback keeper. The Rams opened the second quarter scoring with Eli Trotman’s 19-yard touchdown pass.

Kadien Tracy scored Cedar Bluff’s lone touchdown on a 65-yard run.

The Tigers open the regular season on Friday at home against Valley Head.
