Financial Report Not Approved By Town Council

Bills for Payment Postponed

During the Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting on Monday afternoon, the Council approved the minutes from a previous meeting and a special called meeting but when the Financials were presented, none of the Council Members would make a motion to approve the Bills for Payment from the previous month. After 2 to 3 minutes of silence, Councilman Jack Bond made a motion to table action on the financials until the next meeting.

After the meeting, WEIS News asked Mayor Crane what was wrong with the financials. She replied nothing that she was aware of. We ask her why there was no motion to approve, she said I would have to ask the Council Members but Crane would not make the motion either.

We asked Council Member Higgins if there was something wrong with the financial report and why she did not make a motion to approve them. She said she did not see anything wrong with them but if she had said something, there would have been another conversation.

We asked Council Member Grace about the financial report and she said she did not see anything wrong with the report but she thought it had to do with a voided check listed. There was a voided check that was written on a wrong account and had to be voided out an replaced with a check on the correct account but that was explained by Clerk Burt during the meeting.

We asked Council Member Ritchey and she said she didn’t necessarily think there was anything wrong with the financials but other members of the Council needed to take ownership of approving financials and having a discussion about the financials.

Councilman Bond said he did not know why no one would make the motion for approval but he said he had the same question as Council Member Ritchey about the voided check. Then he said they had the Fire Department Budget in there that was not being followed.

But for now, the Financial Report presented by the Town Clerk to the Council was not approved.
