Centre Man Acquitted After Three-Year Legal Battle
After more than three years facing serious criminal charges, a Floyd County jury has found 56-year-old Dudley Lynn Kerr of Centre not guilty, bringing an end to a long and contentious legal fight.
Kerr had been accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 18 on multiple occasions between 2013 and 2017. The allegations led to his arrest and a lengthy court process that kept his life on hold.
Earlier this week, the jury returned a not guilty verdict on all charges, a decision Kerr’s attorney said brought relief to her client.
“We feel that from the beginning this case was not thoroughly investigated, which inevitably led to my client’s arrest,” said attorney Alicia Lanier. “After three long years of fighting this case and professing his innocence, my client and I are extremely pleased that justice prevailed today.”
Lanier noted that while the legal ordeal is now behind him, Kerr faces the challenge of rebuilding his life and restoring his reputation.
“He lost three years of his life to this case,” she said. “Now, it’s about moving forward and trying to get back to normal.”
Kerr’s acquittal closes a case that drew questions about the initial investigation and leaves a lasting impact on all involved.
