Garbage Truck Load Catches Fire Near Gnatville

Gnatville — A quick response by a garbage truck driver likely prevented serious damage to his vehicle Thursday morning when the load he was hauling caught fire near Three Corners Regional Landfill.

The incident happened around 10:00 a.m. on County Road 6 in Gnatville, just a short distance from the Three Corners Regional Landfill. According to officials, the driver noticed the load had ignited and acted swiftly, dropping the burning debris on the roadside to avoid the fire spreading to the truck itself.

The Mt. Wisner Fire Department responded and worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately four hours, clearing the debris and ensuring the fire was fully out by about 2:00 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and the truck was not damaged thanks to the driver’s prompt action.

Authorities are investigating what may have caused the load to combust and are reminding the public to be cautious when disposing of flammable materials, particularly during warm weather when the risk of fire is elevated.
