Cherokee County Commission meeting

At the latest Cherokee County Commission meeting, commissioners addressed both old and new business in a brief yet productive session. Under old business, the board agreed to amend the public hearing date for a petition to vacate a 7.8-acre parcel of what was once part of the U.S. Highway 411 near Slackland Baptist Church. The public hearing, originally scheduled for an earlier date, will now take place on Monday, August 25th, at 5 p.m. This change was approved unanimously, ensuring time for public notice and participation.

In new business, the commission approved an employment contract between the Cherokee County Commission and county engineer, William Evans Morgan. The agreement, which was also passed unanimously, authorizes the chairman to finalize and sign the contract. The decision marks a continued investment in the counties infrastructure leadership, reaffirming the Commission’s support for Morgan’s ongoing work within the community.

Also in new business, the commissioners talked about adopting a resolution in an agreement to participate in the Alabama local aid agreement and authorize signing. This statewide initiative allows counties to collaborate with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the efficient allocation and use of federal and state infrastructure funding.

The last item on the agenda was to approve the Cherokee County animal building project financing with people’s bank on a 1 million dollar tax-exempt loan and a rate of 4.65 for ten years.

The next meeting will be Monday, August 11th, at 10 a.m.
