During the Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting on Monday afternoon, Candidate for Council Seat in District 1, Brian Adam McNabb, was certified as elected due to not having any opposition. Also, Incumbent Candidate, Loretta Higgins, in District 5 was certified as elected due to no opposition.
The Council approved the purchase of 50 garbage cans at a cost of $3700 which included $750 for shipping.
The Council also adopted a resolution approving the use of electronic voting machines for the upcoming Municipal Election on August 26th.
Council Member Higgins brought up a resolution to permanently designate a portion of the Alcohol Sales Tax Revenue generated in the Town to the Cedar Bluff School for non academic use. The Town began selling Alcoholic Beverages in 2003 and since then, 20 percent of the Alcohol Sales Tax Revenue has gone to the School for non academic use. Council Member Ritchie said she was not sure that could be done legally and asked the Clerk and Legal Counsel to research it for the next Council Meeting. The issue was tabled.
Tire purchase for the Town’s work truck in the amount of $720 was approved at Reece Tire, 3 loads of crush and run gravel was approved in the amount of $2610, front and rear doors for the Courtroom was approved at a cost of $8800 which includes installation, and a new sewer tap for the Police Department was approved for $1000. The lines are being moved due to upgrades for the building.
The Next Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting is set for Monday, August 11th.
