Piedmont City Council Approves Fire Truck Tire Replacement, Staffing, and More
PIEDMONT, AL – The Piedmont City Council held its regular meeting this week, where several key items were discussed and approved.
Mayor Bill Baker reminded the Council and public of the upcoming Fourth of July Fireworks Show, scheduled for Friday night at the Sports Complex, with the display beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The Council approved the hiring of a part-time employee for the Electrical Department. Electrical Manager Corey Horton reported the department was currently understaffed and unable to keep up with a number of ongoing projects due to a lack of manpower.
Fire Chief Todd Kirkland informed the Council that the tires on all city fire trucks were past safety compliance standards, with ages ranging from 8 to 13 years. While the tires still appeared to be in good shape with sufficient tread, NFPA guidelines require replacement every seven years. The Council approved $20,150 to replace the tires and bring the department into compliance.
An alcohol beverage license was approved for Pinhoti Pizza, located at 107 South Main Street, allowing the business to begin alcohol service.
The Council also approved routine financial matters, including the city’s bills for payment totaling $807,193.53, along with two weeks’ worth of payroll in the amount of $166,766.91.
The next Piedmont City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
