Piedmont Buys 3 Police Cars and Approves $36,000 for Tree Trimming

During the regular meeting of the Piedmont City Council Tuesday, Police Chief Nathan Johnson, approached the Council about purchasing three used police vehicles from the City of Glencoe. Johnson and Mayor Baker explained to the Council they were approached by the Mayor and Police Chief of Glencoe about the vehicles. Johnson, The Mayor and others went to Glencoe to check the vehicles. Two of the Chevy Tahoes are 2015 models and one is a 2020 for a total of $39000 total. Johnson said they are expecting to get one hundred thousand miles from each. They are fully equipped as police vehicles, except for the radios. The Council approved the request.

The Park and Recreation Director asked the Council to purchase a new lawn mower to replace one with a worn out engine. The Council decided it would be more cost effective to replace the engine on the existing mower.

Corey Horton, Manager of Piedmont Power and Light, submitted a proposal for tree trimming along the Power Company’s right of way in the City. The 6 month agreement is with Brent’s Tree Service of Centre for one Friday per month for 6 months. Horton explained they had a bucket truck to reach trees the power company crew could not get too. The Council approved the expenditure.

Two resolutions were passed by the Council dealing with abatement issues for mowing and maintenance of properties within the City. Bills and payroll for the past two weeks were approved in the amount of $462,856.05. The Police and Fire reports were given by the Chief of each department.

The next Piedmont City Council meeting is set for July 1st at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers.
