Mr. Micheal Lane Ransum

Mr. Michael Lane Ransum, age 73 of Attalla formerly of Cherokee County, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 2PM Sunday, June 8th, at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Riley Young and Rev. Jeff Teal officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn (Rob) Moore; Grandchildren, Ally (Jaret) Moore, Will Cleghorn, Dan Cleghorn, and Emilie (Matt) Gautney; Great-Grandchild, Beau Gautney; Brothers: Neil Ransum, Brent (Kay) Ransum, Terrell (Paulette) Ransum; Host of Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

Mr. Ransum was a native of Cherokee County, the son of the late Voyd and Elna Ransum. He was a 1969 Graduate of Cherokee County High School and was known as “Smiley” and “Golden Toe” by all his friends due to his excellent athletic skills. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt Turkey, Deer, and Dove especially. In addition, he loved fishing and adored his little dog Lucy. Mr. Ransum was a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He was known by all as a dedicated family man and a great friend to his friends.

Pallbearers include John Demedicis, Donnie Kelley, Rob Moore, Will Cleghorn, Matt Gautney, and Dan Cleghorn.

Honorary Pallbearers include Jaret Walker, Lee Ransum, Lanny Ransum, Caleb Ransum, Landon Ransum, Terry Stephens, Bron Bolton, and Noah Bolton.
