18-Wheeler Carrying Fiber Optic Cable Crashes Off Bypass in Centre

Centre- A flatbed 18-wheeler hauling fiber optic cable wrecked around 10:00 AM Tuesday on the bypass in Centre. The truck, heading south toward Highway 411, reportedly crossed all four lanes of traffic before going off the embankment on the opposite side. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved, and no serious injuries were reported.

The truck’s cab remained upright, but the trailer overturned. As of 10:30 AM, crews were still on scene, awaiting heavy recovery equipment. Drivers are advised to use caution or seek an alternate route, as lane closures—particularly on the east side of the bypass—are likely once recovery begins. Expect delays while recovery operations continue.

Centre Police, Centre Fire Department, and the Cherokee County EMA responded.
