Gadsden Firefighter Injured in Off Duty Accident
Gadsden, AL — The Gadsden Fire Department, along with the family and friends of firefighter Justin Campbell, are asking for the community’s prayers after a serious accident over the weekend.
On Sunday, Campbell was cutting a fallen tree outside his home when a limb or part of the tree struck him in the head, causing severe injuries. A family member who was present immediately began CPR until medics arrived and were able to regain a pulse and restore his breathing. He was transported to UAB, where he is currently being treated in the Neuro ICU.
According to a Facebook page created to rally prayers and support for Campbell, he was initially placed under sedation. Since being taken off the sedation, he has been able to communicate using hand signals and can move his fingers and toes — encouraging signs in his recovery.
The family is requesting continued prayers, particularly that there is no brain swelling and that healing continues. Both his biological family and his fire department family are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
