CEDAR BLUFF– K9 ORO has joined the Cedar Bluff Police Department as a narcotics detection dog. ORO and Sgt. Jamie Chatman also form the department’s newest K9 team.
The one-year-old Labrador Retriever comes from Colombia, South America. ORO and Chatman recently completed weeks of intensive training at the Alabama Law Enforcement Canine Training Centre in Samantha, Alabama.
In announcing the new team, Chief Jeremy Stepps credited their dedication throughout the training process. He also described ORO as another resource in the department’s efforts to combat illegal narcotics and protect the community.
ORO’s duties will include assisting officers with narcotics investigations and conducting school searches. However, his role will also extend beyond enforcement, with appearances at community outreach and public relations events.
The department welcomed ORO as its newest member and invited residents to do the same. Stepps also expressed confidence in the contributions ORO and Chatman will make as they serve Cedar Bluff together.
