RAINBOW CITY– A new Rainbow City road connection linking Lindsey Street with the Westminster community is scheduled to open Thursday, Oct. 29, according to Rainbow City Public Works.
The department says the route will improve access for Westminster residents. It will also provide a better route to the Challenger Center and the city’s Education Corridor.
Rainbow City Public Works described the project as a milestone for the Street Department: taking a wooded area through construction to a completed driving surface.
A New Road Built by City Crews
City crews have repaired many roads throughout Rainbow City. However, the department said this was the first road taken from woods to a finished driving surface under the Street Department supervisor’s leadership.
The department also thanked Mayor Joe Taylor, the City Council, and Joel Garmon for their support and trust.
In addition, Rainbow City Public Works recognized Brent Elrod and the employees whose work brought the project to completion.
Better Access to the Education Corridor
Public Works says the route should improve access to an area that includes the Challenger Learning Center of Northeast Alabama.
According to Jacksonville State University, the center celebrated its grand opening May 8. The facility is home to the university’s STEAM Institute and offers space-themed learning experiences.
Through school partnerships, the center serves students in fifth through eighth grades across Northeast Alabama. Its programs also use simulated space missions to reinforce science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills.
