GADSDEN– The historic Gunn-Bellenger House will host a free open house Sunday, Nov. 15, honoring longtime educator Carolyn Gunn Bellenger.

The Bellenger Class Reunion and Open House will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at 872 Chestnut Street in Gadsden.

Organizers invite former students, friends, and members of the public to attend. Guests can also tour the Victorian home, enjoy refreshments, and share memories of Bellenger and her legacy.

In addition, organizers hope the gathering will bring the community together to celebrate the history of the home.

A Family Home With a Lasting Legacy

The house dates to 1886. Bellenger’s father, Dr. Charles Logan Gunn, purchased the property in 1901.

The home then remained in the family for approximately 90 years. Bellenger served in Gadsden City Schools for approximately 30 years.

Bellenger later bequeathed the home to the City of Gadsden upon her death in 1990. The property also earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Today, the restored home is privately owned and serves as a venue for special events and gatherings.

Organizers also hope the open house will establish a tradition of honoring Gadsden’s heritage while celebrating Bellenger’s contributions to the community.
